#25. I signed up but can't log in — what's the email-verification step?

Audience: New mobile-app users.
Short answer: Accounts created through the mobile app must
verify their email before logging in. Open the verification
email we sent (check spam) and click the link. If you can't find
the email, tap "Didn't get a verification email? Resend" on
the login screen and we'll send a fresh one.
Step-by-step
- Sign up in the app with your email and a password.
- We send a verification email to that address.
- Open the email and click the verification link. (You can do
this on a phone, tablet, or computer — any browser is fine.) - The link confirms your email. Return to the app and log in
with the email + password you set.
What if you don't see the email?
- Check spam / promotions / junk folders.
- On the login screen, after a failed login attempt where the
cause was an unverified email, the app shows a clean
"Didn't get a verification email? Resend" link (added
2026-04-27 — the unverified-email error is now machine-readable
so the app can detect it and surface the link instead of a
generic error). - Tap the link — we re-send the verification email to the address
you typed.
Why we require this
- Stops impersonators from creating accounts with someone else's
email. - Ensures we have a working email channel for password resets,
payment receipts, and event reminders. - The safeguard already existed on the server; the mobile app
was hardened further on 2026-04-27 so unverified accounts
can't slip through.
Notes / gotchas
- Existing users with verified accounts are unaffected —
this only matters for new mobile signups. - Brand-impersonation tricks are also blocked at signup —
e.g. trying to use a name that splits "Google" across first
and last name is rejected with a "this name is not available"
message. (Same on the website.) - The verification link expires after a while — if it's stale,
hit Resend confirmation for a fresh one.
