#10. How do polls work, and why do I see a gold banner at the top of the chat?
Everyone
Audience: Everyone.
Short answer: Anyone in the chat can create a poll. While a poll
is active, a gold pill (🗳 {question} — Please Choose · {countdown})
shows at the top of the room — tap it to vote. Polls run up to 24
hours, only one can be active per room, and results stick around for
24 hours after the poll closes.
Step-by-step (creating a poll)
- In the chat room, tap the bar-chart icon in the toolbar.
- Type your question.
- Add options — + Add Option lets you keep adding choices.
- Pick a duration (max 24 hours).
- Click Create Poll.
- A gold poll banner appears at the top of the chat for everyone in
the room.
Step-by-step (voting)
- Tap the gold banner — it scrolls you to the poll message and lets
you pick an option. - Or scroll up to the poll message in the chat itself and tap an
option there. - A checkmark appears on the banner once you've voted.
What the banner is showing you
- Active poll:
🗳 {question} — Please Choose · {time left} ✓
(the ✓ only appears if you've already voted). - Closed poll (last 24 hours):
🗳 {result summary}—
shows the winning option until it auto-clears.
Notes / gotchas
- One active poll per room. If you try to create a second poll
while another one is still running, you'll see "There is
already an active poll in this room. Close it before creating
a new one." This is intentional so the chat doesn't drown in
stale polls. - 24-hour cap. Polls cannot run longer than 24 hours. After
that they close automatically, the result banner takes over for
another 24 hours, and then the banner disappears. - Live countdown. The banner updates every second so you always
know how much time is left to vote.
