#7. How do I (a parent) pay my child's team balance with a credit or debit card?

Parents

Audience: Parents.

Short answer: From your Parent Dashboard, click Make
Payment for {child}
on the team that has a balance, pick
Credit/Debit Card from the payment-method dropdown, and check
out via Stripe. Your child's ledger updates as soon as the payment
clears.

Prerequisites

  • You must have an approved parent-child link to your player.
    (The Parent Dashboard menu item only shows up for parents with at
    least one approved relationship.)
  • The team must have:
  • Stripe connected (see FAQ #5), and
  • Stripe enabled in their Payment Settings.

If the team hasn't enabled cards, the Credit/Debit Card option
won't appear in the dropdown — only the methods they accept (Venmo
/ CashApp / etc.).

Step-by-step

  1. Log in and click Parent Dashboard in the menu.
  2. Find your child's team card. If they have a balance owed, you'll
    see a gold Make Payment for {child} button.
  3. Click it. A "Pay for {child} — {team}" modal opens showing
    the balance due.
  4. Enter the Amount (defaults to the full balance — change it
    for a partial payment).
  5. From the Payment Method dropdown, pick Credit/Debit Card —
    Pay online via Stripe
    .
  6. Click Submit Payment. You'll be redirected to Stripe's
    secure checkout. Enter your card and confirm.
  7. On success, you're returned to the dashboard — the payment shows
    on the team Payments page right away and the balance drops.

What happens behind the scenes

  • The team's "Pass card processing fee to players" toggle (FAQ #6)
    also applies to parent payments — if it's on, you'll see the
    small surcharge at checkout.
  • Team admins (and anyone with the FINANCE role) get an email
    and push notification
    the moment the card payment completes —
    no manual confirmation needed.
  • The payment shows on the Payments page as Credit Card (it
    used to show as "Other"; that was fixed 2026-04-28).

Notes / gotchas

  • If a payment can't start, the alert shows the specific reason
    (missing setup, team disabled cards, network problem) instead of
    a generic "Network error."
  • The payment dropdown won't show methods the team has disabled
    in their settings — even if you've used them in the past.
  • New teams have payment settings initialized correctly from
    creation, so card payments work as soon as Stripe is connected.
