#6. What does "Pass card processing fee to players" do, and should I turn it on?
Team Leaders
Finance Role
Audience: Team owners, members with the FINANCE role.
Short answer: When ON, players see a small surcharge at
checkout that covers Stripe's processing fee, so your team receives the
full base price. When OFF, your team absorbs Stripe's fee
(roughly 2.9% + $0.30 per charge).
Where to find the toggle
Finance → Payment Settings → Accept Card Payments (Stripe) card.
The toggle is labeled "Pass card processing fee to players." It
only appears once Stripe is connected and charges are enabled.
What the surcharge actually is
- Roughly 3% + $0.30, grossed up so Stripe's cut on the
surcharge itself is also covered. - Without the gross-up, Stripe would take 2.9% of the surcharge too,
and your team would land slightly short. The gross-up math means
the team always nets the full base price of the charge. - Players see the surcharge as a separate line on their checkout
total — not bundled silently.
Should I turn it on?
That's a team decision, but here's the trade-off:
| ON | OFF |
|---|---|
| Team nets full base price | Team absorbs ~2.9% + $0.30 per charge |
| Player pays slightly more by card | Player pays the listed price |
| Encourages other payment methods (Venmo, CashApp) for fee-sensitive players | Card is "free" for the player |
Most leagues turn it on because the alternative quietly eats into
practice and tournament budgets.
Notes / gotchas
- The toggle has no effect on Venmo / CashApp / Zelle / cash —
those don't go through Stripe. - Toggle changes apply to future card charges only, not retroactively.
- If you turn it off, your team is responsible for making up the
Stripe fee internally — it doesn't disappear.

- Suggested script:
1. Open Payment Settings, point to the Stripe card and the toggle
(10s)
2. Walk through one player checkout with the toggle OFF — show
team's net (15s)
3. Toggle ON, walk through the same checkout — show surcharge
line and team's full net (15s)
4. Note that other payment methods (Venmo etc.) are unaffected
